Postcard of the U.S. Post office, Anderson SC on North Main Street. The back of the postacrd has the following message: My dear little Beatrice, I thought of you many times, and -----have written you. Hows your mama and papa, baby and little Joe getting along. Are you still going to school? As ever, Fleeta Brown. Addressed: Miss Beatrice Hillhouse." Before this post office was built, the post was was in various stores. After this building was sold, the post office moved to the corner of Market and McDuffie Street, which would eventually become the Federal Courthouse. The next new location would be at the corner of McDuffie and Calhoun for about 30 years. The Post Office was in service until 1938 when it was relocated. When the building was purchased by George H. Bailes. Bailes first leased it to McDougald-Bleckley Mortuary until 1941 when Sullivan King Mortuary became the leasee. In 2012, the Woodlawn-Sosebee Funeral Home became the new tenants. |
